- Barcamp Malaysia: I was there and I have a t-shirt to prove it
Yes this is a late post, but better late then never. One word summary – excellent. It was long overdue that Malaysia catch up with the rest of the world and start organising a conference for by geeks for geeks.
It was a roller coaster of one and a half days , with a choc-a-bloc schedule. I had stayed on a more tech/design orientated theme myself but there were also talks on time management, music and mathematics.I also liked the talk by Ditesh Kumar on The Malaysian Free Software Movement: The Way Forward which highlighted the Malaysian effort in that scene.
What was even more interesting was meeting up with people, both old and new acquaintances. The energy in the place was really great as well. Although people moved in cliques, there was no problem drifting from one group to the other. I particularly enjoyed seeing the antics of some of the more animated folks.
PropsĀ go out to people like Kamal, Salocin.TEN and Daniel for pulling this off. (I am sure there are many other people involved, but these were the folk I remember
) Not only did they do a great job during the conference they did a fantastic job fielding inquiries from myself before the conference.
I gave a talk myself, which although had a low turn out, seemed to be somewhat well received by those who did attend
.
News is there might be more localised Baracamps going for forward (Barcamp Penang and Johor maybe ?) as well as more themed conferences (FOSS, Drupal). If these events areĀ even half as good as the inaugral Barcamp, they will be definitely worth attending.
